  • February 2023: The Riga Planning Region launches a project on a greener urban environment

At the beginning of 2023, the Riga Planning Region will start the implementation of the project “Resident-driven data ecosystem for the transition to an inclusive and green urban environment”.

The goal of the project is to create citizen-driven data ecosystems to promote adaptation to climate change, development of green infrastructure, development of urban design in six cities – Athens, Kaskai, Dundee, Mannheim, Riga and the city of Utrecht in cooperation with established volunteer communities, as well as minority and marginalized groups.

Within the framework of the project, it is planned to deploy two types of sensors in Riga in order to obtain indicators expressing the quality of the urban environment and analyze them together with indicators characterizing the well-being of residents, thereby assessing the quality of the existing and potentially developing green areas of the city of Riga.

Riga planning region participated in the launch meeting of the project “Urban releaf” in Vienna, Austria in the period from January 24 to 27, 2023.
